Saint Tikhon Zadonsky is one of the most worthy Russian bishops of the 18th century. He was the first of the archpastors forbade the bodily punishments of clergy in his diocese, defended his subordinates from the secular authorities, jealously cared for the spiritual education of clergy and common people.
