“White Maria” is a striking document, in which the fate of the characters are intertwined in the most incredible way, and from laconic to the limit of phrases a voluminous picture is formed. The always purpose of the author, Hannah Krall, the outstanding representative of the Polish “Fact Literature”, to protect those who lived in the world who will be stripped into small parts from oblivion from oblivion in small parts yesterday. The reader is invited to combine these disparate parts himself. The characters of the book are Poles, Jews, Germans, unknown and famous, as director Krzishtof Keslevsky, as one of the leaders of the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto Marek Edelman; Victims, executioners and heroes who have not sting themselves for the sake of others. And the thread that connects life and fate is the story of a Jewish girl who survived the German occupation thanks to the selfless kindness and nobility of some, contrary to the indifference or cruelty of others. Girls who are not named, but which the author “knew well.”
