In the USSR, this grand battle was called Korsun-Shevchenkovsky operation, and in Germany “Kesselschlacht Bei Tscherkassy” (“Battle in the Circassian boiler”). Then, in January 1944, in the area of the city of Korsun, Soviet troops surrounded ten enemy divisions, which for more than three weeks fought with the superior forces of the Red Army, until finally on the night of February 17 they broke through the encirclement and, having lost all the equipment and all the equipment, nevertheless escaped from the “boiler” to connect with the main forces of the Wehrmacht. As usual, each of the parties declared Corsun’s battle with her victory. Soviet sources rightly point out enemy’s huge losses and the complete loss of combat effectiveness of even emerging units. The Germans emphasize the mass heroism of their soldiers and the “miracle” that they performed, saved from a hopeless situation. This book first represents this point of view to the domestic reader, allowing you to look at one of the decisive battles of the Second World War Eye.
