USSR at a construction site

The book is dedicated to the magazine “USSR at a construction site”, published in 1930-1941 and 1949 in five languages. The magazine was positioned as an “illustrated publication of a new type”, outstanding artists, photographers and writers of the 1930-1940s took part in its creation: El Lisitsky, Alexander Rodchenko, Varvara Stepanova, Max Alpert, Dmitry Debabov, Arkady Shayht, Isaac Babel, Maxim Gorky and others. “USSR at a construction site” is a unique source on the history of Soviet journalism, photography and design. The publication was initially focused on a variety of groups of readers – from Soviet collective farmers to owners of foreign banks – and was supposed to create a positive image of economic and social transformations that occurred in the Soviet Union, primarily industrialization.
