The manual discusses the problems of the theory of teaching foreign languages (linguodidactic foundations of teaching) in conditions of general and higher school. It summarizes the modern experience of teaching one of the sections of the course of foreign languages - the theory of language teaching – from the perspective of basic for the methodology of disciplines: pedagogy, psychology, linguistics, sociology, cultural studies, taking into account the professional needs of the reader. The content of the manual complies with the requirements of the draft Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation” (editors of 2010), the recommendations of the Federal State Standard of Higher Professional Education of the 3rd generation (2010), state standards for a foreign language for a comprehensive school (2004).
