Among the visual primary sources dedicated to the events of the Patriotic War of 1812, the art annals of the Russian campaign created by the participant in the campaign, the young Bavarian artist Albrecht Adam (1786-1862), is of particular value. With the rank of captain, he was a court painter under the Vice Corol of Italy Evgenia Bogarne, the adopted son of Napoleon. In this position, Adam was supposed to accompany the prince “on travel and wars” to create a picturesque chronicle.
Albercht Adam made over 300 drawings from nature, creating a unique picturesque diary – one of the main visual sources of the Patriotic War of 1812.
