Fate released A.V. Kolchak is less than half a century, but in this short time there were so many turning events, tragedies and storms that would have enough lives: great wars and great love, huge power and state disaster. One of the last heroes of the empire, awarded for courage with golden St. George weapons, he explored the polar ice and defended Port Arthur, mined the Gulf of Finland and commanded the Black Sea Fleet, planned the landing of Istanbul and was the supreme ruler of Russia – though not for long, only 13 months. Unable to cope with the mission of the Savior of the country, devoted to the allies, Kolchak was shot without trial on February 7, 1920. The Bolsheviks considered him the “worst enemy of the Soviet power” and “the embodiment of the entire old untruth of Russian life” (expression of Trotsky). And Ivan Bunin, speaking in a panachid, remembered the supreme ruler with these words: “It will come when his name will be inscribed with gold letters for eternal glory and memory in the annals of Russian land …”
