In the literature of the 20th century, V.V. Nabokov is a unique phenomenon, and primarily due to its bilingualism, virtuoso ownership of both Russian and English. He said about himself: “My head is talking in English, my heart is in Russian, and my ear is in French.” The Russian emigrants of Nabokov’s books seemed too divorced from the traditions of his native literature, modern researchers of his work never came to a consensus: what culture does this talent – Russian or American? Until 1937, Nabokov created eight novels in Russian, he wrote the following novels in English (the exception was made up of the autobiography “Other Beregs” and the author’s translation of “Lolita” into Russian).
This edition publishes Nabokov’s novels written in Russian – “Luzhin Protection” (1929), “Invitation to Execution” (1936) and the author’s translation of the novel “Lolita” (1955, 1959).
