The French artist, lithograph, designer and architect Victor Petit is known for his albums dedicated to private architecture, which came out mainly in the first half of the 19th century. The album “Rural Houses” was released by the Paris publishing house of the Montrok brothers around 1855. In search of interesting models, Petit traveled throughout France and visited neighboring countries. On his lithographs, we can meet English, German, Swiss, Spanish and Italian mansions, villas and cottages. In some ways, they are similar to each other, since they used general techniques and traditions, in some ways-very different. One way or another, the main thing that unites them is a wonderful ability to enjoy life, characteristic of the architects who designed houses and people who lived in them, and those who bought and looked at these albums in the century before last. This feeling of joy is invariably conveyed to us, the audience today.
