The novel is based on one of the most significant reconnaissance operations conducted by military counterintelligence Smersh during the Great Patriotic War – the Radio -Radio Radiogent Radio. During the operation, five strategic misinformations were brought to the Higher Nazi command, which had a certain influence on the Kursk and other battles on the Eastern Front, a number of personnel employees of the Zappelin intelligence agent were captured, and other important tasks were solved. The protagonist of the operation, the brilliant intelligence officer Viktor Butyrin for the “successful completion of tasks” was awarded personal thanks of the chief of the Main Directorate of the Imperial Security (RSHA) of the SS Caltenbrunner Obergrappenfuhrer. Until July 1944, the Joseph group (the code name of the Butyrin group in Zeppelin) gave important information to the German special services that greatly appreciated it. They were mistaken only in one – the Joseph group really worked brilliantly, but for Joseph Stalin.
