Dry Spiro (b. 1946) – one of those who determine the face of today’s Hungarian literature. Proseic, poet, playwright, translator, publicist, university teacher. The historian of the theater, philologist, connoisseur of East European languages and realities. His novels and plays have not once become an event in his homeland. Laureate of many awards, translated into many languages.
The notebook includes stories selected from three books of different years and several early poems – as a prologue or epigraph. The hero, the observer of these sparingly and accurately worked out, defined stories and their author is one face. Stories, if they develop into a certain fragmentary story, then rather into the story of growing up spirit and soul: charm, confrontations, defeats. And victories, of course, too. Distractedly recognizable circumstances of time and place: our common story.
