The Kostroma village of Shchelykovo means no less for Russian drama than the Pskov Mikhailovskoye for Russian poetry. Here, in the protected side, Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky worked on a half of his fifty plays, among which “unprodantic”, “last victim”, “pupil”, “a savage”, “shining and not warming” … In the fabulous silence of these places there was an unexpected miracle – “Snow Maiden”.
The book of the Kostroma historian, the local historian, the last quarter of the twentieth century, Viktor Bochkov, endowed with the gift of a fascinating narrator and deep researcher, are laid by little -known archival sources, as well as the question of the descendants of the great playwright.
