This book contains the blockade diaries of three amazing women-Petersburger-Leningradov Tatyana Velikov, Vera Berkhman and Irina Zelenskaya. Two world wars invaded their lives: at the first they served the sisters of mercy, in the second they found themselves in the real hell of the Leningrad blockade. But it was these trials, which are beyond human representations, that fully revealed their spiritual beauty and strength of the spirit.
Blockade diaries are not only fixing the tragedy in real time, but also a constant tool for self -knowledge of the person who writes them.
And for the current generation, reading diaries is one of the best ways to recognize and understand the past.
The publication was prepared for the press by A. N. Chistikov, A. I. Rupasov and V. M. Kovalchuk (Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg Institute of History). The publication is supplemented by photographs from the family archive of A. A. Great and the family archive of relatives I. D. Zelenskaya.
