For the first time, the reader is offered a complete reprint of the book of the outstanding Russian orientalist Nikita Yakovlevich Bichurin (Father of Iakinf), who headed the Russian spiritual mission in Beijing from 1807 to 1821. In the Notes of Mongolia, published in 1828, a living language tells about travel impressions, a study is presented on the history of the development of the peoples of this country. An important part of the work is the Mongol Code – a document that regulated all aspects of the life of the Mongols under the rule of the Manchu Empire of Qing.
The book includes articles by famous scientists R.B. Rybakov and A.N. Khokhlov, comments and dictionary of terms are compiled by A.N. Khokhlov. This publication “Notes on Mongolia” was prepared in accordance with the norms of modern spelling, while the author’s grammatical and stylistic features and the linguistic structure of that time are carefully preserved.
