The EMERCOM captain Sergei Sniferov, nicknamed Sniff, finds out that his brother Vadim, a military stalker, has not returned from the next campaign to a new zone. SNUFF decides to go in search, as he receives from his brother vague messages, transferred with the help of the found artifact. Sniff cannot achieve help with the scientific leadership and commandant’s office, and he can go to stalkers. But they do not trust the person from the side, suspecting the provocation. Nevertheless, Sniff finds a guide – a very strange stalker bore.
In parallel with them, a film crew led by the famous film producer Mikhailovsky, who, on occasion, acquired a unique compass indicating the road to the mysterious object – Proton, is sent to the zone. It was in those places that the brother of Captain Sniferov disappeared at one time …
