From a long chain of national-self-consuming works of Russian literature-“military” stories of the XI-XVII centuries. – The best, combining the skill of the image of battal paintings with an understanding of the socio-political meaning of the described events. “The Tale of Ryazan Batu in 1237”, arbitrarily reduced by I.I. Sreznevsky from different lists, was published in 1867 and was then reprinted in various readers. The text “Words about the Battle of Kulikovo …” was reconstructed by V.P. Adrianova-Peretz on the basis of the most authoritative list of the State Historical Museum with corrections for the rest of the five lists. “The Tale of the Azov capture …” was first published by M.M.Sherbatov in 1771, but the critical edition was carried out by A.S. Orlov in 1906. For this publication, the texts of stories were subjected to new archaeographic study and reconstruction by handwritten sources.
