Meaning of icons: Lossky, Assumption

For the first time in Russian, the book “The meaning of icons”, previously published in German, English and French, is published. The famous theologian V. N. Lossky and the icon painter and the researcher of the icon L. A. Uspensky composed it primarily in the calculation of the Western reader, is little familiar with the history and theory of the Orthodox icon and the main iconographic types. The book is available, but at a serious scientific level introduces icon painting and icon studies into the problems of icon painting.
The publication is designed for the widest circle of readers who are interested in the history of Christian art and issues of theology of the Orthodox icon. It includes extensive visual material, in detail illustrating the author’s text. The book can be used as a training manual for students of creative universities and departments on the history of art.
