“Lonely”.
One of the later works of Ionesko is an evil and witty parody of the work of French existentialists Camus and Sartre. The plot of the novel is unhappy: a person who has received a major inheritance from a certain American uncle in his youth gives free rein to his genuine passion for contemplative life. The table in a small cafe turns into an observation point – and every evening a hero, trying to overcome loneliness, watches a performance staged by the most virtuoso director – life itself.
