Alexander Viktorovich Elchaninov was born in 1881 in the city of Nikolaev, in the family of an officer, a hereditary nobleman. Having graduated from the Gold Medal a classic gymnasium in Tiflis (modern Tbilisi), Alexander entered the historical and philological faculty of St. Petersburg University.
At the end of the university, he was admitted to the Moscow Theological Academy, but did not complete his training in it. Then he worked in the Moscow Religious and Philosophical Society named after Vladimir Solovyov. The main task of society was the active preaching of Christianity among the intelligentsia, the struggle with the growing godlessness in its mind.
