The creative heritage of Nicos Kazanzakis (1883-1957) – writer, poet, playwright, essay, researcher and translator – is rightfully considered one of the most significant contributions to the literature of the 20th century. Native Greece has repeatedly provided the writer with the opportunity to test himself and come to close to the most different manifestations of the human spirit. This versatility found a brilliant reflection in the novel about the adventures of Greek Alexis Zorbas, published in 1943, filmed in 1964 (three Oscars in 1965) and immediately put its creator among the largest novelists in the world. This work, sparkling with the sounds and smells of Crete, is almost baptized, but filled with many meanings and temptations, all these precious drops of being, eagerly and carefully collected by the main character – an adventurer, lover Alexis Zorbas.
