Joseph exeter – an epic poet with an excellent classical education, a representative of the Renaissance of the XII century, and his poem is an attempt to revive the ancient epic, setting out completely the history of the Trojan War (according to the lateant versions of the Frigigan and Dictis of the Cretan), and thus enter into a competition with Homer and Gorgilia. Together with his contemporary Benois de Saint-Mor, the author of the “Roman about three”, Joseph stands between the ancient interpretations of the Trojan War and its poetic transformations among Choser and Shakespeare. Of the prosaic expositions, Joseph made a full -scale poem with all its traditional attributes: heroes’ speeches, battal scenes, real dreams, and the prophecies of the oracle. The saturated, elaborate poetic syllable makes Joseph one of the most original Latin poets of the XII century, in which there were more than enough bright individuals.
