Behind the author of this book, a rather long and rich life: as a boy he found a war, was a student, soldier, journalist, writer, people’s deputy of the USSR, member of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, editor -in -chief … – He has, what to tell about what to remember. However, the book is not built as a chronological chain of memories: the author chooses only individual episodes from his life and builds them as independent novels, each of which has its own plot. The action of these short stories develops either in the army unit, in the distant Transbaikalia, then in the walls of the famous Herzen’s House – the Lithuanian Institute, then in the Kremlin Palace of Congresses, then in the editorial office, then abroad … In the final section of the book, “Conversations by the fireplace”, whose creator was B. Nikolsky on the pages of the Neva. His interlocutors are such famous people as D. Granin, V. Konetsky, M. Piotrovsky, philosopher Yu. Solonin, writer and historian D. Al, biologist – academician N.
