D. N. Mamin-Sibiryak was born and lived most of his life in the Urals. He entered the history of Russian literature primarily as the author of the “Ural” novels, which brought him wide fame. Everything in them seemed unusual for readers: both the flavor of Siberian life itself – nature, life, traditions, folk speech, and new heroes – gold miners, Old Believers, hunters, with their strong, strong -willed characters. Carried away at one time by the idea of renting gold-bearing plots of land, the writer made trips to mines, met there with prospectors, asked them about life. The gold miner from the mother-Siberian did not come out, but the experience gained became the basis for working on the novel “Gold” (1892).
