Sophie Van der Stap was born in Amsterdam in 1983 and was the most ordinary girl – she studied, had fun, fell in love. So far, in 2005, doctors diagnosed her – cancer. Within 54 weeks of chemotherapy and other exhausting procedures, Sophie led a blog, almost daily fixing what happened to her, recording her thoughts and emotions. And then, when the treatment ended (fortunately, successfully), the blog turned into the book “Girl with Nine Wigs” – an unexpectedly optimistic view of a terrible disease. This sad and funny story about illness, love and hope became a bestseller in Europe, and in 2013 was filmed.
Sophie Van der Stap lives in Paris and continues to engage in literature and journalism. In addition, it is one of the founders of the Orange Ribbon international charitable organization, which helps children with cancer.
