The book is a documentary narrative about the last, most vivid and dramatic period of G.A. Potemkin – politics, diplomat, commander. This is the era of the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791, when Potemkin determines the strategy of Russian armies at once on several theaters of military operations-in the Western Black Sea region, in Moldova and the North Caucasus, as well as the actions of the Russian fleet. At the same time, he leads a complex and skillful game on the stage of great European politics.
The judgments of contemporaries, always prejudice and often critically evaluating the figure of Potemkin, together give an idea of a living, contradictory and violent personality of one of the most significant state people in Russia.
