The famous Moscow musicologist Konstantin Alfeev writes a book about operas based on the legend of the “Flying Dutch”. A sudden turn of events turns Alfeev into an outcast, and he has to flee from his hometown. He finds a refuge in a secluded house on the river bank and continues to work on the book. Strange transformations take place with the house: it is more and more like a ship. In parallel with the action in real Russia, the 70s also unfolds the action on the legendary “flying Dutch”. Meanwhile, the police and security organs discover the shelter of the fugitive … Written in the genre of magical realism, the “Flying Dutchman” is distinguished by a shaken style and a fascinating plot.
The poet and prose writer Anatoly Kudryavitsky was born in Moscow, lives in Dublin (Ireland). He worked as an editor in the magazines “Spark”, “Foreign Literature”. Published a book of prose and several collections of poems. Laureate of international poetic awards.
