The history of the Russian book is rich in examples of editorial skills, but, as a rule, we judge it, analyzing the books already published. Complex and painstaking editorial work usually remains beyond the observations of the researcher. Essays on the history of editing discusses books in the process of their creation, techniques for editing work on the text, the accumulation of editorial techniques that have passed the path from the times of ancient scribes, the main concern of which was the accuracy of the text reproduction, to the most difficult work on the publication of the complete works of Russian classics of the XIX century.
Nowadays, when editing is widely used in the media, getting to know the samples of editorial labor for everyone who is involved in preparing the text for a meeting with the reader who is interested in the history of the Russian book, the history of culture, is justified and useful.
The book is addressed to a wide range of media workers, scholars, students – future editors and journalists.
