The creation of the holy Monk Joseph Volotsky “Enlightener” developed in the fight against the heresy of the Judaizers, shocked Russia at the turn of the XV-XVI centuries. This capacious set of Orthodox theology unites fragments of the Holy Scriptures and patristic creations, episodes from life and the history of the Church into a harmonious system. The polemically acute, the theologian is deep, vividly and brightly written, this book has remained a living phenomenon of Russian culture and weapons of ideological struggle for centuries. The attacks on the Orthodox doctrine, which had to be reflected by the Rev. Joseph in the XVI century, are repeated today with renewed vigor from countless sects, heresies and “new” religious and irrevocable teachings, therefore, the “Enlightener”, first completely translated from Church Slavonic into Russian, is also relevant today.
