The book is dedicated to the writer, whose name was deleted from the history of Russian literature for several decades – Panteleimon Sergeyevich Romanov (1884-1938). Only in the late 80s of the XX century, his return to the reader took place: numerous collections of stories were reprinted, the unfinished romance of the epic “Rus”, the first articles about him appeared. The author of the book, based on an extensive biographical, historical, archival material, tried to reveal the individuality of the original domestic prose writer, to solve the mystery of its phenomenal popularity at the peak of writer’s glory – in the 20s of the XX century, when, in terms of readiness in the country of the Soviets of Romanov, he invariably occupied a leading place, ahead of A. Tolstoy and M. Gorky.
The book helps to recreate a more complete picture of the literary life of the 1920-1930s, to fill in some gaps in the history of Russian literature. It can be interesting to both philologists and a wide reader who is not indifferent to dramatic destinies …
