The plot of the novel unfolds in 1915. Colonel Alexander von Adelberg then still wears the epaulets of the captain, the headquarters captain Stin – the lieutenant, the ensign Georgy Vyazemsky studies in the cadet corps, and his father, Arkady Ivanovich Vyazemsky, commands the 22m Dragoon Regiment. The events of an incredibly fascinating and historically reliable novel occur not only at the front, “in the saddle and trenches”, but also in the German pogroms covered by a wave of German, in the rear Tver and Simbirsk, in the distant Taiga village “Baikal-More”. Combat episodes, the fate of individual soldiers, officers, sisters of mercy and entire families organically develop in a full -scale picture of a great country in one of the most dramatic periods of Russian and world history.
