Beasts and Birds Evgeny Charushin: Erast Kuznetsov

Evgeny Ivanovich Charushin (1901-1965) belonged to the Pleiades of talented artists who worked under the leadership of V. Lebedev and determined their work an unprecedented rise in the domestic children’s book in the 1920-1930s. His vocation was animalism, he acted as an illustrator of books about animals and created works included in the Golden Fund of the Children’s Book: “Different Beasts”, “Free Birds”, “Schur”, “Beast Burunduk”, “Children in the Cage”, “Valka, Bobka and Rabbits” and others. At the same time, he proved himself as an extraordinary writer for children, and from the mid -1930s – as a master of Lithographic reamp. For the first time, he managed to combine serious knowledge and understanding of animals with a penetrating sensation and expressive transmission of their internal state. The book of E. Kuznetsova is not a monographic study, but a story about the artist’s life path and what constituted and continues to make up the value of him.
