The final novel “The Cycles” of the Empire in four dimensions. Measurement of IV ”(1990s), the famous Soviet and Russian writer Andrei Georgievich Bitov (born in 1937) created for twenty years (early 1970s-late 1990s). This is a puzzle, composed of all the genres that he had tried in the three previous dimensions: “First Dimension” – the 1960s, “Second” – the 1970s, “Third” – the 1980s. The author introduces the reader with the main soldiers of the empire: a bioologist-asor D., offering to look at the crown of nature through the eyes of other living beings (“birds, or new information about a man”), and an artist-restorer Pavel Petrovich, looking for his point in the picture of the Creator (“Man in the Landscape”). These two are finally found in the third part (“expectation of monkeys”), trying to combine the scientific picture of the world with the Divine.
