In contrast to the numerous, often unscrupulous, politicized and even frankly slanderous literature dedicated to the sovereign Emperor Nikolai II, the book of Viktor Sergeyevich Kobylitsa is one of the most fundamental and honest works on this topic – labor built on the basis of documents and facts. For the first time, this book called “Emperor Nicholas II and Adjutant General M.V. Alekseev” saw the light in New York in 1970. We considered it a notious to publish a preface to the lifetime edition, compiled by the All -Slavic publishing house that issued the book. We also retained some of the now outdated spelling rules that the author adhered to. The publication is equipped with notes, comments and a search key, which will serve as an help to everyone who is seriously interested in the actual, and not the mythical way of the holy emperor-underground.
