The Dutch artist Yos van Der Beke went down in the history of art under the name Yos Van Klev (clover – a place where the painter was born). Apparently received education in Bruges, where he got acquainted with the works of Hans Memling (1433-1494), the influence of which was traced in the work of Jos Van Cleve in subsequent years.
The artist’s life is connected with Antwerp, where in 1511 he became a member of the city guild of St. Luke, twice was elected dean of the guild of masters. From Antwerp, the painter made trips to other cities and countries of Europe, visited Germany, France, England. Jos Van Klev, knew the modern Italian painting well, identified Leonardo da Vinci among other masters of revival.
The artist created numerous works for gospel plots, including altar triptihi for churches.
