Women’s awards of the Russian Empire: Sergey Levin

The book “Women’s Awards of the Russian Empire” is dedicated to a little -studied topic – female awards. Of course, many are aware of the Order of St. Catherine and the insignia of St. Olga, often incorrectly called the Order, and, to a lesser extent, Mariinsky insignia. The book tells in detail about the history of the institution, being and legal aspects of these main types of female awards of the Russian Empire, about the cavalry ladies of these orders and insignia. For the first time in the most complete form, lists of awarded by the Order of St. Catherine are published. The relevance of the topic considered in the book is evidenced by measures aimed at improving the state award system of the Russian Federation. On May 5, 2012, a decree was signed on the establishment of the Order of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine and the insignia “for good deeds”.
