Problems related to the memory of Stalinism are painful and acute in today’s Russia. On the shelves – a lot of prostalin literature: artistic, journalistic, quasi -star. In sociological surveys, Stalin is invariably in the first three “most outstanding figures of all time.” In an acquittal spirit, the Stalinist policy is interpreted in the new history textbooks for the school.
And nearby are the unconditional achievements of historians and archivists, hundreds of fundamental volumes of documents, scientific articles and monographs dedicated to Stalinism. But if they influence mass consciousness, then too weak.
The reasons for this are both in the lack of practical mechanisms of such influence, and in the historical policy of recent years. But most of all – in the features of the current state of our national historical memory of Stalinism.
