Barry Edward O’Mira (1786-1836), doctor, Irishman by origin. He served in the British Navy. He accompanied Napoleon to the island of St. Elena, where for three years he was his attending physician. He was involved in the conflict between Napoleon and the governor of the island of Hadson Lowe, who was accused of inhuman treatment of the captive. In 1818 he was expelled from the island. In 1822, he published the memoirs “Voice from the island of St. Elena”, in which he exposed the abuse, which the French emperor was subjected to the island. The book immediately became a bestseller and withstood many publications. It is rightfully considered one of the most truthful and worthy of attention of books about Napoleon during his link.
