Evgeny Lvovich Schwartz (1896-1958) – one of the best Soviet playwrights, the author of the famous plays “Ordinary Miracle”, “Shadow”, “Dragon”, – during his lifetime, rarely saw his creations on stage: in harmless fairy tales, the authorities saw a caustic satire on the state system (however, not without reason). In his diaries, which can rightfully be called both a novel and memoirs, without embellishment, it is told about his own life and dozens of people close to him – S. Marshak, K. Chukovsky, D. Harms, N. Oleinikov, M. Zoshchenko, L. Panteleev, B. Zhitkov, K. Fedin, V. Shklovsky, M. Slonimsky.
The reader will meet on the pages of a smart, thin, open, friendly, ironic interlocutor, sometimes a merciless critic and always a subtle stylist.
