The training manual sets out a modern interpretation of statistical mechanics, which has changed qualitatively over the past two decades due to the widespread use of various types of thermodynamic ensembles in numerical calculations. All key conclusions and concepts of statistical mechanics, such as ergotism, entropy, temperature, pressure are illustrated by the results of numerical modeling based on molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo. The simplicity of obtaining numerical results, coupled with a compact theoretical description, makes it possible to trace all the details of the phenomena, both at the microscopic and macroscopic levels: from the issues of forming equilibrium distributions to the calculations of the average by the ensemble with the necessary degree of detail and visualization.
