The memoirs of the comrade chief prosecutor of the Holy Synod, Prince Nikolai Davidovich Zhevakhov (1874-1947?)-is a unique document of the era in which the author sought to truthfully depict the internal state of the Russian Empire during the First World War, during the terrible oath-crime riot and the bloody revolutionary turmoil of the beginning of the 20th century.

Nikolai Davidovich Zheevakhov wrote his memories, living abroad since 1920, and divided them into four volumes. Both first volumes, covering the period of September 1915 to January 1920 were prepared for publication in 1923.
