The novel tells about Kisen, about women of light behavior – an integral part of Korean culture, which played a large role in the formation and understanding of the role of a woman in society. Kisen is not a prostitute at all in the everyday understanding of the word. Kisen appeared during the Koreo dynasty (935-1392). These were artists who entertained kings at feasts. Often they reached heights in art, poetry and literature.
Turning to this complex topic, the author does not praise and does not criticize Kisen, but considers their worldview, thoughts, doubts, experiences, inviting the reader to plunge into their world and give an assessment of this phenomenon of Korean society.
To find calm and harmony of the soul, it is useful to look back to each of us. After all, often the future is hiding behind our actions in the past. Consignment of the past can give us the key to solving the problems of the future, will help to gain strength to live on.
