“The Last Judgment”. Guide to the icon: Elena Tikhomirova

This small book is written in an unusual genre – it invites the reader to make a journey through the Last Court icon, making “stops” on all important scenes that are part of this complex and multi -component iconography. The vision of the Prophet Daniel, the universal resurrection of the dead, sinners in hell and the righteous in paradise – these and many other subjects, traditionally included in the “Last Judgment” icons, are considered separately in this publication and are accompanied by numerous quotes from the Bible, liturgical books, as well as patristic works. The monument for iconographic analysis was the image of the “Last Judgment” of the first half of the 19th century from the collection of Russian icons with the support of the Foundation of the Holy and all the Apostle Andrew the First -Called, published for the first time.
