For the first time in Russian historiography, the book is comprehensively investigated the history of bells and bell -up production of medieval Rus’, starting with their appearance shortly after the adoption of Christianity until the end of the 17th century.
Based on the analysis of archaeological, archival and other written sources, visual materials, material monuments available on this topic of literature, the author reveals a picture of the existence and spread of bells in ancient Rus’; trains the emergence of foci of foundry during the Horde dependence; reveals the features of their functioning during the formation of a centralized Russian state; shows the significance of the Moscow cannon court as the country’s main enterprise for the production of bells in the XVI-XVII centuries; Reconstructs the creative biographies of its leading masters.
