The names of the poets entering this collection are well known to all readers from the school bench, but only a few are familiar with their works dedicated to the sensual side of love. Passionate, playful, frank, sometimes shocking and piquant poems of such recognized masters of the poetic word as A. Pushkin, A. Fet, K. Balmont, I. Seversyanin, V. Bryusov, S. Yesenin, represent the best examples of Russian elegant literature in this genre. Not allowing himself to sink to vulgarity, each of the poets in his own way revealed the theme of bodily love, singing female beauty and “riot of eyes and floods of feelings.” In A. Fet and A. Blok, this is lyrical, reverent initiations to a woman, in M. Kuzmin and V. Bryusov – ardent and passionate outpourings, and in N. Agnivtsev – frivolous and mischievous balses. Their lines still sound fresh and modern, because the desire to love and be loved is inherent in a person at any time.
