This book reveals the veil over rich events, the complex inner life of the editorial office of the most, perhaps, the famous Russian newspaper. The author has something to tell – he worked in Izvestia for twenty -seven years, went from a reporter to the chief editor. Of all the plots, Vasily Zakharyko chose the most conflict, but the most topical for the book – as the editors in Soviet times strove for freedom of speech, as in August 1991 she achieved independence from the state, as already in democratic Russia took advantage of this status and then lost it forever. These were the years of both the popular glory of the newspaper, and her deep drama, if not more – tragedy.
