This collection was compiled by Fujavara-but Taika in 1235. In medieval Japan with its cult of poetry, the compilation of a poetic collection was considered a creative act of the highest order. This was supposed to be not just a book of good verses, but also a composition with deliberate transitions of topics that have echoed motives.
Translator Nikolai Nikolaevich Bakhtin – poet, bibliographer, literary critic, teacher, theater figure. It was published under the pseudonym Nikolai Novich, since the officer was not supposed to be printed under his surname. After the October Revolution, Bakhtin became one of the founders of the Leningrad Youth Theater and headed his pedagogical part until the end of his life.
