This publication included the most significant works of Vladimir Mayakovsky – the outstanding poet of the twentieth century, one of the leaders of the Russian avant -garde. M. Tsvetaeva called him “the first poet of masses in the world … the first Russian poet-orator.” Mayakovsky, who “equated the pen with the bayonet,” became the voice of the revolution and the symbol of the Soviet era. But, like every big poet, Mayakovsky outgrown his time: his work – no matter what disputes it causes today – is in demand by new generations of readers, his life in art turned out to be long.
