The series of “nationality of Russia” Pavel Pavlovich Kamensky (1858-1922) is a story embodied in porcelain about the main wealth of Russia – the culture of the peoples inhabiting it. The order for the execution of the largest in the history of the imperial porcelain factory of the series of figures was initiated personally by Emperor Nicholas II in 1907. Currently, the existence of 74 figures is known, of which most are in the collection of the State Hermitage. The series of “Russian Nationalities” has no analogues in world porcelain practice, since a unique method was developed to create it. Each figure was simulated on the basis of the latest historical, ethnographic and anthropological data, using scientific consultants from leading institutions: the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (now the Museum of Peter the Great RAS) and the ethnographic department of the Museum of Alexander III (now the Russian Ethnographic Museum).
