Igor Severyanin is a tragic Menstrel of the Silver Age of Russian poetry. He was born on May 16, 1887 in St. Petersburg and composed poetry from early childhood. His teachers and hot admirers were Konstantin Fofanov, Valery Bryusov and Fedor Sologub. The poet’s most famous book, The Thunder Cup (1913), enriched the very idea of Russian poetry. The scandalous ego fluorist and a militant esthete, chosen by the king of poets in 1918, the northerner eventually chose to leave the bohemian capital, having spent the last decades of his life in Estonia. It was there that his creative manner underwent fundamental changes, and he created genuine poetic masterpieces.
