The book introduces the views of the outstanding English thinker and historian Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881), presented in his most important works “Heroes, Heroes veneration and heroic in history” and “Past and present”, as well as in the collection of aphorisms “Ethics of Life” (“To work and not to lose heart!”). They contain paradoxical in content and bright in the form of the author’s thoughts over the eternal problems of human existence (the meaning of life and value of personality, death and immortality, faith and unbelief), as well as problems that acquire special relevance these days (labor and acquisition, uncontrollable enrichment and impoverishment, democracy and genuine freedom, etc.). Addressed to a wide range of readers.
